Tyler's birthday

Yesterday was Tyler's birthday and we had a mini-celebration because he's not getting his big birthday present for two weeks.

Sir Charles Moses Bigson (we'll call him Moses for short), is a little Great Dane puppy that will be joining our family soon. We visited him this last weekend and we get to take him home on July 5. He's supposed to get really big because his dad's shoulders were 39 inches tall and he weighed 195 pounds (bigger than Tyler).

My dad made Tyler an ulu — an Alaskan Native knife — and mailed it down. We'll have to post some action shots of the knife in use later.

Thought to ponder

"Ninety-nine percent of people don't know they have toes."

A man I interviewed yesterday said this while explaining that most people aren't aware of the world around them.

Do you have toes?

Back from vacation

Even though we didn't get home until 2:30 a.m., and Tyler had to work at 6:30 a.m., and I had to write a cover story for Tuesday's paper — we both thought it all was worth it to meet Mazie James. Tyler and I flew out to North Carolina to see everyone for a week and we had a great time. I can't wait to see how much she grows by the next time I see her. I'm sure she'll be as smart and as funny as her parents.
